Wedding Dresses 101

I have a straight or very small frame and am looking to add some curves!

You want to look for either a Straight or Mermaid Wedding Dress. A straight dress is cut close to the body and fits your form allowing the fabric to flow and hug your natural curves. A mermaid style dress is fitted at the waist and flairs from the knee into a fuller circle. This option is more fashion-forward for a contemporary wedding.

I am the classic “pear shape” and need to deaccentuate some of my assets.

The great thing about wedding dresses is the fabric tends to be thick, heavy and abundant so things we choose to cover up can easily be hid! An A-Line or Princess wedding dress is fitted at the bust and waist but flairs at the hips – avoiding hips or thigh cling.

I want my fabric to hide a bit of tummy!

With a bit of old world charm built in, the empire waste’s seams are placed directly below the bust line allowing the fabric to drape around the body. It hides midsections and detracts from bulging.

I have been working out the arms and want to show them off!

Cut across the bust without straps or neckline coverage, the strapless dress is a liberating shape option. The neckline may come in a variety of options including: straight, queen ann, v-neck or sweetheart.

I want the classic bridal look!

If you want to look like Cinderella, choose the classic ball gown with a fitted bodice and fuller skirt. It is truly the quintessential bridal shape.
